Accessibility statement
UK Transplant is committed to making its website more accessible.
We are therefore making a number of changes to improve accessibility and this is an ongoing piece of work.
Access keys
Some web browsers support "access keys" which enable you to navigate the site without the aid of a mouse. They can be used by pressing:
- ALT + access key (PC **)
- Control + access key (Macintosh)
The following access keys have been assigned so far:
- 1 - Home page
- 2 - skip navigation
- 9 - Contact
- 0 - Accessibility statement
** not all versions of Internet Explorer support access keys
Navigation
- The site has a global navigation bar which appears on every page. Although the appearance of the navigation bar changes in the campaigns section, the order, sequence and links of each item remain consistent.
- Tabbed design makes for easy browsing. When you are in a particular section (eg Statistics), the corresponding tab is highlighted.
- The breadcrumbs, just below the navigation bar, tell the user where s/he is in the site, with hyperlinks to navigate back up the levels.
- 2nd-level links always appear on the left hand side, with further relevant links on the right.
- You can "skip to content" by pressing access key "2" or by clicking the link which is visible when stylesheets are switched off.
Links
- All hyperlinks will have a "title" attribute giving a description of the linked page (most browsers will display this as a "tooltip"). Hover mouse here for an example
Images
- All images include descriptive ALT attributes except for decorative graphics which are referenced from style sheets or include null ALT attributes.
Visual design features
- Tables are used for layout only on legacy/archived pages. For the majority of the site, layout is achieved with CSS.
- Site is thoroughly readable with CSS switched off
- All markup is structural (h1 for top headings, h2 for sub headings etc) - to allow assistive software to navigate through the document structure.
- Relative font-sizes enable the user to resize all text in all browsers
Print-friendly pages
Pages print in a format which is print-friendly and legible. If you want to preview the print version you can go to File > Print Preview in your browser.
PDF accessibility
The site employs wide use of PDFs to convey information.
Most computers already have the software to open these document formats. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader (for reading PDFs), it is available from the Adobe site as a free download.
