This group is the main source of advice to UK Transplant and UK health departments on all aspects of organ donation and transplantation.

Its membership is wide-ranging, including surgeons, anaesthetists, experts in intensive care, transplant co-ordinators together with the chairs of the Patients' Forum and other advisory groups.

The group ensures, as far as is practical, equity of access to transplantation for all patients, and that appropriate national clinical standards are in place. In addition to advising on policy direction, the group's remit includes strategy, ethical issues and research. Topics for discussion are referred by the other advisory groups, professional bodies, UK health departments and elsewhere.

Working parties are responsible for organ retrieval issues such as setting standard surgical procedures and protocols for the management of donors.
