The Pancreas Advisory Group was previously known as the Pancreas Task Force, a sub-group of KPAG, which has itself been renamed the Kidney Advisory Group (KAG).
Having been agreed by KPAG and ratified by transplant unit Directors, a national allocation scheme for kidney/pancreas and pancreas alone (Pancreas Allocation Scheme) was introduced in the UK in 2003 to provide a formal, open basis on which to exchange pancreata for transplantation to benefit potential recipients.
A National Protocol for the Assessment of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Patients has also been published and is awaiting implementation.
