National Protocols and Guidelines


Under the auspices of the Scottish Office and the British Liver Trust, and with the support of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons within the UK, a colloquium was held in Edinburgh in 1998, following which guidelines were agreed for adults undergoing cadaveric liver transplantation.

These were subsequently agreed by the UK Transplant Liver Advisory Group (LAG) in November 1999 and are now regularly reviewed by the NHSBT Liver Advisory Group. The latest version, which has been endorsed by LAG, is accessible below:

In October 2002 the UK Transplant Liver Advisory Group agreed similar guidelines for children undergoing cadaveric liver transplantation and the latest version of these, which has also been endorsed by LAG, is accessible below:
